Citizen Police Academy
What is the Citizen Police Academy?
The Kemah Citizen Police Academy offers citizens a unique, inside view of the Police Department and its role in the community. The Academy is a 15 week block of instruction and interactive training on a wide variety of police operations such as crime scene investigation, accident investigation, Texas Penal Code, use of force, patrol procedures, communications, and more.

In 2018, the Kemah Police Department will host a Citizen Police Academy Class beginning January 16, 2018 that will meet every Tuesday evening from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm at City Hall for 15 weeks. A graduation ceremony will be held at the end of the academy. All supplies needed for the academy are furnished by the police department.
Objectives of the Kemah Citizen Police Academy include the following:
- Raise awareness among Kemah citizens of the roles and contributions of the Police Department
- Achieve some understanding among participants of the many facets of Law Enforcement
- Get to know the police officers who patrol your neighborhood and see your community from their perspective

Who May Attend?
The Academy is open to anyone age 21 and up. Couples are encouraged to attend.
Interested participants may attend the Citizen Police Academy, based on the following application process:
- Willingness to work in a team environment
- Submission of completed written application
- Submission of completed Waiver Form
- Submission of completed Consent for Criminal Record Search Form
Kemah Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association
Graduates of the Citizen Police Academy are eligible to join the Kemah Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association.
This non-profit group meets monthly and continues learning about law enforcement through guest speakers and field trips. The Alumni Association makes both tangible and intangible contributions to the Department through fundraisers and volunteer work, and has become a welcome and valuable part of the police department.
